LADY CHARGERS BASKETBALL STRIKES DOWN GOLDEY-BEACOM LIGHTNING 

Wilmington, DE (2/23/08)  The visiting Lady Chargers of Dominican College struck down Goldey-Beacom College, 76-66 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)women's basketball action at the John West Jones Center.

The Lady Chargers had a 25-14 lead with 6:31 left in the first half when the Lightning put together a 12-0 run to take a 26-25 lead with under five minutes left in the stanza.  GBC went up 32-29 but DC ended the half with a 5-0 run for a 34-32 advantage.

Dominican opened up the second half with a 15-4 run to take a 49-38 lead en route to the 76-66 victory.  Shooting only 32.4% (12-37) in the first half, the Lady Chargers awoke to shoot 55.0% (11-20) in the second for a final 40.4% (23-57) from the floor.

The Lightning was led by senior Toni Jones who led all scorers with 30 points.  Jacinda Jones added 15 points and a team leading seven rebounds in the loss.  Arielle Alford netted 10 points off the bench.

Dominican had all five of their starters in double figures as Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) and Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) led the way with 13 points and combined for 13 rebounds,  four assists and four steals.  Senior Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) and Adele Laskwoski (Wayne, NJ) each added 11 points in the win, with Laskowski adding a game leading five assists.

With the win, Dominican improves to 19-7 overall and 13-3 in the CACC, while GBC falls to 11-15 overall and 8-9 in conference play.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Post University on Senior Night at the Hennessy Center for the finale of the CACC regular season.  Game time is 6pm on Coach Baxter Court.
