SEVENTH RANKED HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY UPENDS LADY CHARGERS
Blauvelt, NY (2/16/08) The seventh ranked and North East Region #1 Tigers of Holy Family University upended the Dominican College Chargers, 50-45 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Dominican opened up the game with a 7-2 run, but Holy Family University came back with a 9-0 run to take a 10-7 lead with 12:08 left before the break. Knotted at 17-17 with 3:48 left, the Tigers went up one on a good free throw, but DC went on a 4-0 run to end the first half with a 21-18 lead.
In the second half, the Lady Chargers extended the lead to five points, but the Tigers pounced with 13-4 run to take a 33-27 lead with 13:10 left in the game. Dominican would cut the lead to one point four times, but couldn't pull ahead as Holy Family University went on to the 50-46 lead.
Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, NJ) and Alana Arthurs (Brooklyn, NY) led the Tigers with 13 points each, while Carr added six rebounds and Arthurs had five. Junior Lauren Boyer (Lebanon, PA) had a team leading 10 rebounds.
Forwards Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) and Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) each had 10 points in the loss, while Burgess had the game's only double-double with 10 caroms. Guards Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) and Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) each netted nine points and combined for nine rebounds, while Rotio had a game leading four assists.
Holy Family shot 32.1% (18-56) for the game to Dominican's 26.2% (16-61). Both teams shot poorly from three point land with the Lady Chargers shooting 15.0% (3-20) to the Tigers 11.8% (2-17). The Tigers out rebounded DC, 47-40.
With the win, Holy Family University improves to 24-0 overall and 15-0 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 17-7 overall and 11-3 in conference play.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to
Felician College in CACC women's action. Game time is 6pm.
