LADY CHARGERS SOAR PAST POST UNIVERSITY EAGLES

Blauvelt, NY (2/9/08)  The Dominican College Lady Chargers basketball squad used a 52 point second half to soar past host Post University, 91-63 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action this afternoon at the Drubner Center in Waterbury, CT.

Early in the first half tied at 8-8 the Eagles went on 10-4 run to take a 20-12 lead with 10:19 left in the half.  Dominican charged back to knot the game,33-33 with 1:49 to go as Kayla MacDonald (Stonington, CT) converted the three point play.  The last minute of action saw both teams take a two point advantage but as time expired the score was tied, 39-39.

The Eagles shot 50.0% (16-32) from the floor in the first half, while the Lady Chargers shot 42.9% (15-35).

Trailing 50-46 early in the second half, DC took charge going on a 27-2 run to take a 75-54 lead with 4:18 left in the game. The game closed out with a 15-7 Dominican run for the 91-63 victory.  The Lady Chargers shot 54.5% (18-33) in the second half for a game final of 48.5% (33-68).  The Eagles shot just 33.3% (6-18) for a game total of 44.0% (22-50).  Dominican had the edge on the boards, 35-33.

The Eagles were led by Kendra Pitts with 15 points.  Stephanie Goss had the game's only double-double with 12 point and 11 rebounds.  Elizabeth Johnson and LaToya Coley each had 11 points in the loss.

Dominican was led by Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ), Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) and Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) each had 17 points in the win.  Laskowski had a team leading seven rebounds, while Chambers had six caroms and Rotio had a team leading four assists and a game leading seven steals.  Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) had eight points and six rebounds.

With the win Dominican improves to 17-6 overall and 11-2 in the CACC, while Post falls to 4-17 overall and 4-10 in the CACC.

Dominican is back in action next Saturday when they host Holy Family University,ranked seventh in the nation, in CACC women's action.  Game time is 1pm on Coach Baxter Court for Think Pink Day at the Hennessy Center.
