NYACK RALLIES TO DEFEAT DOMINICAN LADY CHARGERS
Blauvelt, NY (2/5/08) The visiting Warriors of Nyack College fought back from a ten point deficit at the break to defeat the Dominican College Lady Chargers, currently ranked seventh in the region, 59-57 this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Down, 41-53 with 7:44 remaining in the game, the Warriors went on an 11-0 run to knot the game at 53-53 on a three point basket by sophomore Kelsy McIntosh (North Pole, AK). Dominican regained the lead 55-53 with 2:03 left in the game on two free throws by sophomore Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY).
Nyack went on a 4-0 run to take a 57-55 lead with 1:49 left in the game, but Sainten again tied the score, hitting a jumper with just over thirty seconds left in regulation. Sophomore forward Shelly Yount (Belvidre, NJ) netted the game winning baseline jumper off the pass by senior Tamyra Lathon (Temple Hills, MD) with 0:09 seconds left in the game. Dominican moved the ball up the floor and had two chances to tie the game but came up empty handed as Nyack went on the 59-57 upset.
The Lady Chargers were led by Sainten with 16 points. Senior guard Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) netted 12 points and game leading five assists and steals, while junior Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) scored 10 points and a game leading eight rebounds in the loss.
Nyack was led by McIntosh with 19 points. Yount finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Kaarina Stearns (Spring Valley, NY) had a solid game with nine points and seven rebounds off the bench.
With the win Nyack improves to 7-12 overall and 4-7 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 16-5 overall and 10-2 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Thursday when they host American International College in a non-conference game. Game time is 7pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
