LADY CHARGERS STAY ATOP OF CACC NORTH WITH WIN OVER USP

Blauvelt, NY (1/26/08)  The Lady Chargers basketball squad remained atop of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division with a 63-56 victory over the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia at the 7th Annual Sue Heller Memorial Game on Coach Baxter Court.

Dominican jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first 3:48 of the game, taking advantage of eight turnovers by the Devils.  USP fought back to take a 19-18 lead with 9:38 left in the half on a 15-4 run.  DC came back to take a 26-24 lead late in the half, but the Devils went on a 8-3 run to lead 32-29 at the intermission.

The Lady Chargers started out the second half with a 12-4 run to take a 41-36 lead and later held a 50-44 lead when the Devils put together a 10-4 run to knot the game for the fifth time.  DC went on a 9-2 run to close out the game and earn their first victory on Coach Baxter Court against USP since December 18, 2002.

Erin Chesnavich (Pittston, PA) led all scorers with 21 points and had nine rebounds.  Allison Weiss (Springfield, PA), who was named the Most Valuable Player from USP, netted 18 points (6-7 from the floor), a game leading 12 rebounds and had six assists in the loss.

Senior guard and Dominican College Most Valuable Player, Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) led four Lady Chargers in double figures with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and a game leading four steals.  Senior Kristen Tracey (Bronx, NY) netted 16 points, shooting 4-8 from beyond the three point arc and had three steals, while junior forward Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) had 14 points and five caroms.  Sophomore Adele Laskowsi (Wayne, NJ) chipped in 10 points, had a team leading five assists and 6 boards in the win.

With the win, Dominican improves to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in the CACC, while USP falls to 8-9 overall and 6-3 in the CACC.

DC is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Caldwell College in CACC women's basketball action.  Game time is 6pm at the Newman Center.
