SECOND HALF RALLY NOT ENOUGH AS PURPLE KNIGHTS PREVAIL IN OVERTIME

Blauvelt, NY (1/21/08)  The visiting Purple Knights of St. Michael's College fought off a late second half rally by the Dominican College Lady Chargers to prevail in overtime, 85-74 this evening in a non-conference game on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

Dominican trailed 34-25 at the break and trailed for most of the second half until a the Lady Chargers went on a 5-0 run to knot the game at 59-59 with 4:59 to go.  The lead seesawed back and forth in the final minute and ended in a 67-67 tie.

In overtime, it was all St. Michael's College as they outscored Dominican 18-7, shooting 8-8 from the charity stripe.  Senior guard Allison Dunn (Whippany, NJ) had two big three point baskets in the overtime to lead the Purple Knights to victory.

The Lady Chargers had four players in double figures, led by junior Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) with a career high 25 points, five rebounds and three assists.  Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) netted 15 points, while sophomore Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) provided 14 points off the bench.  Senior guard Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) scored 11 points, six rebounds and three assists in the loss.

For St. Michael's, Dunn led the way with 22 points (4-5 from three point land) and nine rebounds.  Michelle Otey (Southborough, MA) netted 19 points and nine caroms, while freshman Logan Pintka (Niskayna, NY) scored 14 points off the bench.  Alexis Keller (Harrington Park, NJ) had 10 points in the win.

With the win, St. Michael's College improves to 10-7 overall, while Dominican falls to 12-4.

DC is back in action on Wednesday when they host Felician College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's hoops action.  Game time is 6:00pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
