DOMINICAN WOMEN DOMINATE CALDWELL COLLEGE 

Blauvelt, NY (1/10/08)  The Dominican College Lady Chargers basketball team used a 13-2 run to start the game and never looked back in defeating the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College, 78-52 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

The Lady Chargers took a 31-9 lead with 6:56 to go in the game on a layup by sophomore Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ).  The Cougars cut the lead to 45-30 at the break as senior Melissa Freeman (Englewood, NJ) hit a shot as time expired.

Junior Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) had a big first half with 16 points, eight rebounds and five steals to lead all scorers.

The closest the Cougars ever got in the second half was at the 14-minute mark where a shot by Kate Schutz (Edison, NJ) to bring CC within ten points, 50-40.  DC responded with a 21-6 run to take a 62-46 lead en route to the 72-58 final.

Dominican shot 4.19% (26-62) for the game to Caldwell's 35.8% (19-53).  DC also owned the boards 40-34.

Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ) led Caldwell with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.  Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) netted 10 points and three assists off teh bench.

Chambers led all scorers with 22 points, ten caroms, three assists and six steals.  Laskowski finished with 13 points, while senior guard Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) netted 11 points, five assists and a game leading seven steals in the win.

With the win, Dominican improves to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the CACC, while Caldwell falls to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in the CACC.

The Lady Chargers are back in action next Thursday when they travel to CACC opponent, Nyack College.  Tip-off time is 6pm at Bowman Gymnasium.
