Lady Chargers Upend Philadelphia University, 81-75
Blauvelt, NY (2/24/07) The Dominican College womens basketball team revenged a loss to Philadelphia University earlier in the season by beating them, 81-75 this afternoon on Senior Day at Coach Baxter Court in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) womens action.

Blauvelt, NY (2/24/07) The
Dominican College women’s basketball team revenged a loss to
Philadelphia University earlier in the season by beating them,
81-75 this afternoon on Senior Day at Coach Baxter Court in Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women’s
action.
The Lady Chargers jumped out to an
21-14 lead in the first half with 12:15 to go, but the Rams cut the
lead to four on two good free throws by Meg Abele (Lititz,
PA). Dominican then went on a 22-7 run
to build a 43-26 lead with 1:38 left in the first half and cruised
to the 46-30 halftime lead.
DC held a 10 point lead, 66-56 with
7:19 to go in the game but Philadelphia put together a 15-5 run to
tie the game at 71-71 with 2:09 left. The Rams took
the lead on a lay up by Abele with 1:31 on the
clock, but senior Jackie Tracey-Spitaleri (Bronx,
NY) put the Lady Chargers back in the lead with a lay up
of her own.
After a DC foul and two good free throws by Nina Brascetta
(Philadelphia, PA) the game was once again knotted at
75-75. Sophomore Althea Chambers
(Yonkers, NY) put the Chargers back in the lead with a
bucket with 0:38 seconds left in the game and senior Beth
DePalo (Rumson, NJ) buried two crucial free throws for a
79-75 lead with under twenty seconds to go.
Chanbers hit two free throws with 0:11 seconds
left for the final 81-75 score.
The Rams had three players in double figures, led by
Abele with 23 points, six rebounds and three
blocks. Nicole Mechell (Springfield,
PA) and Alisha Ferguson (Fort Washington,
PA) each netted 15 points in the loss, while
Ferguson added a game leading 11 rebounds.
Dominican had
four players in double figures, led by junior Dana Rotio
(Garfield, NJ) with 20 points.
Tracey-Spitaleri finished with 18 points and a
game leading eight assists, while DePalo finished
with 14 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Freshman Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) netted 11
points and five rebounds in the win.
With the win, Dominican improves to 19-8 overall and 15-7 in the
CACC, while Philadelphia University falls to 18-8 overall and 14-6
in the CACC.
This was the final regular season game of CACC play for both
teams. Both teams have qualify for the CACC
Tournament which begins with first round games on Wednesday night.
