Dominican College Defeats Philadelphia University, 63-59
Blauvelt, NY (12/10/05) The Dominican College women's basketball team handed the Lady Rams from Philadelphia University a 63-59 loss this afternoon in CACC women's basketball action at the Hennessy Center.
DC was led by sophomore Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) with 14 points. Junior point guard Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY) had 10 points, 10 assists and six rebounds on the day. Center Ashley Rossi (Greenwood Lake, NY) chipped in 8 points, while Danielle Dugan (Bayonne, NJ) added 10 rebounds in the win.
The Lady Rams had three players in double figures, highlighted by a double-double from Alisha Ferguson (Fort Washington, PA) with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Meg Abele (Lititz, PA) and Ashley Webster (Philadelphia, PA) also had13 points in the loss.
Trailing 27-25 at the half, Philadelphia rallied to tie the game at 33-33 off a free throw shot by Abele five minutes in the second half. Jillian Degnan (Whitestone, NY) followed with a jumper to put the Lady Chargers back in the lead and never looked back.
Both teams had a hard time shooting from the floor as Philadelphia had the edge, 37% to 36.7%. PU also dominated from the free throw line shooting 81% to DC's 61.9%
With the win the Lady Chargers improve to 5-2 on the year and 3-2 in the CACC, while PU falls to 5-2 and 3-2 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers return to action on December 20 as they travel to Honolulu, Hawaii for the Hoop N' Surf Tournament.
