Dominican Lady Chargers Win Home Opener Over St. Rose, 71-66

Blauvelt, NY (11/15/05)The Dominican College women's basketball team opened up the 2005-06 season with an impressive win over the College of St. Rose, 71-66 this evening at the Hennessy Center.

DC held a 37-34 lead at the half and lost the lead only once in the second. The Golden Knights took the lead, 56-54 with 6:58 left as Petra Kulhankova (Czech Republic) hit two free throws. However, Ashley Rossi (Greenwood Lake, NY) answered right back hitting a jumper to tie the game. Danielle Dugan (Bayonne, NJ) was fouled and hit one of two free throws as DC went ahead 57-56 and never looked back.

Dominican was led by sophomore Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) who netted 16 points. Shooter Jill Younghans (Succasunna, NJ) scored 14 points and shot a perfect

3-3 from the free-throw line. Point guard Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY) had 13 points and five assists, while senior center Rossi added 11 points and 7 rebounds.

For the Golden Knights, Kulhankova led all scorers, netting 20 points and grabbing 7 boards. Emily Gottstein (Albany, NY) socred 17 points, while senior Kelli-Ann Henry (Bronx, NY) contributed 13 points in the loss.

The Lady Chargers return to action on November 22 when they host Mercy College in a non-conference match up at the Hennessy Center. Game time is set for 7pm.
