Lady Chargers Dominate Nyack Warriors, 74-53
Blauvelt, NY (2/2/06) The Lady Chargers of Dominican College bested the Warriors of Nyack College, 74-53 this evening in a CACC game held in the Hennessy Center at Dominican College
The game was scoreless for the first three minutes, but the Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a jumper by Deborah Roberson (Akron, OH). The Lady Chargers took the lead, 3-2, with 15:26 remaining as senior Jill Younghans (Succasunna, NJ) connected on a lay up off the dish by junior guard Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY). DC never looked back as they went into the half up 32-20.
The Lady Chargers had three players in double figures, led by Younghans with 20 points. Freshman Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) was strong off the bench with her first double-double of the season as she netted 12 points and grabbed a game leading 11 rebounds. Sophomore Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) added 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals in the win. Tracey ended the game with seven points and three assists.
The Warriors were led by Roberson with 14 points and five rebounds. Tamyra Lathon(Temple Hills, MD) netted nine points, three assists and four steals in the loss. Brittany Cawley (Peckville, PA) and Kaarina Stearns (Spring Valley, NY) contributed eight points each.
DC dominated from the floor, shooting 45.6% for the game, to NC's 31.1%. Dominican had the edge from the free throw line, shooting 73.9% to Nyack's 63.2%.
With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 14-7 overall and 12-4 in the CACC, while Nyack falls to 2-17 overall and 1-15 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday, February 4th when they travel to Philadelphia University in CACC women's basketball action. Game time is 2pm.
