University of the Sciences In Philadelphia Devils Top Lady Chargers, 73-68
Blauvelt, NY (1/28/06) The Devils from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia topped the Lady Chargers of Dominican College, 73-68 this afternoon in the 5th Annual Sue Heller Game held at the Hennessy Center.
The Devils had three players in double figures, highlighted by a double-double as senior Leah Shumoski (Broomall, PA) netted a game leading 24 points and 11 rebounds. Shelby Rance (Bloomsburg, PA) contributed 18 points, two assists and two steals in the win. Rashanna Edwards (Cherry Hill, NJ) netted 15 points, five assists and three steals for the Devils.
The Lady Chargers had four players reach double figures, led by freshman Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) with 17 points. Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) and Jill Younghans (Succasunna, NJ) each had 12 points, while Younghans went 2-4 from the three point line and Rotio added five assists. Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY) netted 10 points and three assists in the win.
For their outstanding performances, Shalissa Burgess from DC and Leah Shumoski from USP were named MVPs of the game.
With the win, the Devils improve to 11-6 overall and 10-4 in the CACC, while the Lady Chargers snap a five game winning streak and fall to 12-7 overall and 10-4 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Tuesday, January 31st when they travel to Caldwell College in CACC women's basketball action. Game time is 6pm.
