Dominican Lady Chargers Overcome New Jersey Institute of Technology, 65-60

Newark, NJ (1/21/06) The Dominican College women's basketball defeated the New Jersey Institute of Technology women's basketball, 65-60 this afternoon in CACC women's hoops action.

NJIT led by as many as seven points early in the second half, but DC rallied to tie the game at 47-47 as sophomore Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) hit a jumper with 5:39 remaining in the game. Beth DePalo (Rumson, NJ) hit the go ahead layup with 5:04 left en route to the 65-60 final score.

The Lady Chargers were led by junior Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY) with 14 points, two assists and four steals and senior Ashley Rossi (Greenwood Lake, NY) who also had 14 points and four blocks. Rotio finished with 11 points and four assists. DePalo netted nine points and a team leading seven rebounds, while senior Danielle Dugan (Bayonne, NJ) had a solid game off the bench with seven points.

The Lady Highlanders had three players in double figures, led by Kelly Crowe with 20 points. Selena Kershaw had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Jill Dickinson netted 11 points in the loss.

With the win, Dominican improves to 11-6 overall and 9-3 in the CACC, while NJIT falls to 10-5 overall and 8-4 in the CACC.

Dominican is back in action on Tuesday, January 24th as they host Post University in a CACC women's basketball match up. Game time is slated for 6pm at the Hennessy Center.
