Dominican Lady Chargers Turn Back Bloomfield College, 74-63

Blauvelt, NY (1/19/06) The Dominican College Lady Chargers basketball team defeated the Lady Deacons from Bloomfield, 74-63 this evening in CACC women's hoops action at the Hennessy Center.

Dominican held a four point lead going into the half, but Bloomfield took a one point lead early in the second half. The lead would change two more times, but Dominican would take the lead for good with 8:29 left as Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY) hit two free throws to give the Lady Chargers a 50-49 lead, en route to the final 74-63 score.

The Lady Chargers had five players in double figures, led by Tracey with 17 points, six assists and one steal. Senior shooter Jill Younghans (Succasunna, NJ) netted 16 points, 3-6 from three point land, while senior Danielle Dugan (Bayonne, NJ) and freshman Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) scored 12 points a piece and combined for 15 rebounds off the bench. Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) contributed 11 points, five assists and eight rebounds, respectively.

For the Lady Deacons, DeAnjole Felton (Mt. Vernon, NY) led the team with 16 points. Shantae Barnes (Absegami, NJ) added 11 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. Marissa Franklin (Pleasantville, NJ) had a solid game with seven points and seven rebounds.

With the win, Dominican improves to 10-6 overall and 8-3 in the CACC, while Bloomfield falls to 10-4 overall and 8-3 in the CACC.

Dominican is back in action on Saturday, January 21st as they travel to New Jersey Institute of Technology in a CACC match up. Game time is 1pm.
