Dominican Lady Chargers Turn Back Caldwell College, 72-60

Blauvelt, NY (1/12/06)The Dominican College Lady Chargers basketball team defeated the Lady Cougars from Caldwell College, 72-60 this evening in CACC women's hoops action at the Hennessy Center.

Caldwell had an early five point lead in the half, but couldn't hang on as junior Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY) hit a lay up, giving Dominican lead at 22-21 with five minutes remaining in the first half. DC went into the half with the 35-29 lead and never looked back.

For the Lady Chargers, Tracey led the team with 14 points, six assists and two steals. Seniors Ashley Rossi (Greenwood Lake, NY) and Jill Younghans (Succasunna, NJ) each netted 11 points, while Rossi added a team leading seven rebounds and had three assists in the win. Sophomore Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) gave a solid effort with seven points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Danielle Dugan (Bayonne, NJ) contributed eight points and six rebounds, respectively.

For the Lady Cougars, Shannon Coyle (Matawan, NJ) led the team with 14 points, while Melissa Freeman (Cresskill, NJ) added 12 points and seven rebounds. Amy Ransom (Chattanooga, TN) netted 10 points, while Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ) chipped in nine points and seven rebounds in the loss.

With the win, Dominican improves to 7-6 overall and 5-3 in the CACC, while Caldwell falls to 3-9 overall and 3-6 in the CACC.

Dominican is back in action on Saturday, January 14th as they host Georgian Court University in CACC women's hoops action. Game time is 1pm.
