WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DOWNS NYACK COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (11/3/09)  The Dominican College women's volleyball team downed the visiting Warriors of Nyack College, 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-19) this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Senior Night at the Hennessy Center.

DC jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first set and never looked back en route to the 25-12 win.  Junior Catherine Giordano (Stony Point, NY) had six service points in the set, while CACC Rookie of the Week, Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) led Dominican on a 7-0 run late in the set.

In the second set with the score tied 20-20, Dominican went on a 4-0 run to pull ahead 24-20 as they ended up closing out the set on a kill by Fiorvanti for the 25-21 set win.

The Warriors had a 10-4 lead early in the third set and had a 15-11 when Dominican answered back with a 7-0 run to take an 18-15 lead, led by serves from Fiorvanti.  With a 23-19 lead, DC took advantage of two Warrior attack errors for teh 25-19 set win and 3-0 match victory.

Senior Megan Metcalf (Miller Place, NY) led the Warriors with eight kills and eight digs, while Jackie Ver Hage (Midland Park, NJ) and Brianne Cercone (Gary, IN) each added five kills a piece.  Amelia Moore (Austin, TX) had 13 assists.

Fiorvanti led the Lady Chargers with 11 kills, while setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) added eight kills and a match leading 29 assists in the victory.  Freshmen Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) had seven kills and libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) had a match leading 10 defensive digs.

With the victory Dominican improves to 21-9 overall and 15-4 in the CACC, while Nyack falls to 10-10 overall and 9-8 in the CACC.

Before the match, Dominican honored seniors Lauren Palermo (Ottisville, NY) and manager Keriann Quinn.

This wraps up the regular season for the Lady Chargers who will advance to the CACC Tournament slated to begin next Tuesday.
