VOLLEYBALL EXTENDS WINNING STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

Philadelphia, PA (10/21/09)  The Dominican College women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to nine matches after defeating host Chestnut Hill College 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-8) this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.

The Griffins held a 13-10 lead when the Lady Chargers went on a 5-0 run to take a 15-13 advantage.  Tied 19-19, DC closed out the set with a 6-1 run for the 25-20 win.

Dominican charged ahead in the second set jumping out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back en route to the 25-9 win.  Junior Kerrianne Dudley (Nanuet, NY) served five consecutive points late in the set to help the Lady Chargers to the 2-0 match lead.

DC had a 10-5 lead when junior Catherine Giordano (Stony Point, NY) served five points to extend the lead to 15-5.  Leading 21-8 freshman Michelle Klimas (Thornwood, NY) had four straight service points, including an ace for the 25-8 third set win and 3-0 match victory.

CACC Rookie of the Week, Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) and setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) led the Lady Chargers with seven kills each in the victory, with Ranger tallying 22 assists.

Junior Yashani Smith (West Haverstraw, NY) and freshman Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) added five kills a piece, while freshman Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) had a team leading nine defensive digs.  Giordano finished with a team leading three service aces.

The Lady Chargers improve to 19-8 overall and 13-3 in the CACC with the victory.

Dominican is back in action next Thursday when they travel to Felician College for a 7pm match.
