WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY

New Castle, DE (10/17/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to seven matches after sweeping host Wilmington University, 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-19) this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
Tied 20-20 in the first set freshman Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) broke the Wilmington serve with a kill off the assist by Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA). N'Jameh Philip (Monroe, NY) served the final four points for the Lady Chargers, tallying two service aces for the 25-20 set win.
Dominican jumped out to a 12-3 lead early in the second set as middle blocker Kristen Loney (Pine Bush, NY) had six straight service points. DC extended their lead to 18-6 and never looked back en route to the 25-13 set victory.
The Lady Chargers trailed 9-6 in the third set when junior Catherine Giordano (Stoney Point, NY) ignited a 8-0 run on eight straight serves to give DC a 14-9 lead. Leading 19-11, Dominican closed out the set with the 25-19 win and 3-0 match sweep.
Fiorvanti led all attackers with 14 kills and tallied 11 defensive digs. Middle blocker Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) added seven kills, while Ranger had a match leading 31 assists. Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) led the team with 15 digs, while Giordano finished with three service aces and 10 digs.
Loney also had three aces, while junior Yashani Smith (West Haverstraw, NY) had four block assists in the win.
With the victory Dominican improves to 17-8 overall and 11-3 in the CACC.
DC is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Post University for a 7pm match.
