WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SPLIT ON FINAL DAY OF Le MOYNE COLLEGE INVITATIONAL

Syracuse, NY (9/13/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team split on the final day of the Le Moyne College Invitational this afternoon. DC lost to Millersville University, 3-0 (24-26, 19-25, 18-25) in the opening match, but rallied to defeat host Le Moyne College, 3-2 (25-18, 19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-10).
In the day's opening match against Millersville University, the Lady Chargers opened up the first set with a 6-2 lead but an 11-3 run put MU ahead 13-9. Tied at 22-22, DC got two quick points to go up 24-22 and be point away from the set win, but three attack errors put the Marauders up 25-24 and they put the set away with a kill for the 26-24 set win.
Tied 10-10 in the second set, MU went on a 4-1 run to take a 14-11 lead. The Lady Chargers answered back with a 6-2 advantage to take a 17-16 lead, but a 9-2 offensive spurt by MU gave them the 25-19 win.
Dominican jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the third set, but four straight points by MU knotted the set at 10-10. The Marauders stayed hot with an 11-4 run to go up 21-14 as they went on the 25-18 third set win and 3-0 match victory.
Freshman Kristen Loney (Pine Bush, NY) led the Lady Chargers in the match with eight kills, while Michelle Klimas (Thornwood, NY) had six kills and Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) had 21 assists.
In the second match against host Le Moyne Klimas led the team with 13 kills, while Loney added 10 kills. CACC Rookie of the Week, Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY), had nine kills, while Ranger had a match leading 37 assists.
With the split Dominican now stands at 6-4 overall.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Concordia College for a 7pm Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match.
