WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS MOLLOY COLLEGE
Rockville Centre, NY (9/9/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team defeated non-conference opponent, Molloy College, 3-2 this evening at the Quealy Gymnasium. DC took the first two sets before the Lions won the third and fourth sets to force the fifth and final set where the Lady Chargers got the 15-8 set win and 3-2 match victory.

DC took the first two sets before the Lions won the third and fourth sets to force the fifth and final set where the Lady Chargers got the 15-8 set win and 3-2 match victory.
In the first set, the Lady Chargers opened up the game with a 5-2 lead, but the Lions quickly rallied with an 8-1 run to take a 10-6 lead. Tied at 27-27, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week, Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) recorded back to back kills for the 29-27 victory.
Dominican held an 18-12 lead in the second set when Molloy once again rallied to take a 23-21 advantage. Two kills from junior outside hitter Kerianne Dudley (Nanuet, NY), followed by two Lion attack errors allowed DC to take a 25-23 set win.
The third set saw the Lions take advantage of three unforced Lady Charger errors to take an 11-8 lead. Trailing 20-17, DC notched four of the next five points to knot the game at 21-21. Tied at 24-all, Molloy was able to go on a two point spurt for the 26-24 set victory.
The Lions roared back in the fourth set to tie the match at 2-2, taking advantage of unforced Dominican errors for the 25-11 set win.
Leading 2-1 in the last set, DC tallied seven unanswered points to claim a comfortable 9-1 lead, taking advantage of four unforced errors from by the Lions. Molloy trailed 12 -3 after a Lady Charger kill by Dudley. Molloy was able to to cut the deficit to five, but Dominican was able to post the 15-8 fifth set victory.
Fiorvanti led the Lady Chargers with 11 kills, while Dudley and freshman Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) each added seven kills in the win. Setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) had a team leading 34 assists and compiled 13 digs. Freshman Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) led DC with 17 defensive digs, while junior Catherine Giordano (Stony Point, NY) added 12 digs and Nicole Bagatta (Bellerose, NY) contributed 11 digs.
With the victory, Dominican improves to 3-2 overall.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow night when they host CACC foe, Bloomfield College, in a 7pm match on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
