COLLEGE OF SAINT ROSE DEFEATS LADY CHARGERS VOLLEYBALL
Orangeburg, NY (9/1/09) The visiting Golden Knights from the College of Saint Rose defeated the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 24-26, 25-15) this evening in a non-conference match on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (9/1/09) The visiting Golden Knights from the College of Saint Rose defeated the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 24-26, 25-15) this evening in a non-conference match on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The Golden Knights never trailed in the first set, built on a 10-5 lead with an offensive run of 11-4 to take a commanding 22-9 lead en route to the 25-17 set win. The second set was a close battle as the Golden Knights held a just a two point advantage, but closed out the set with an 11-5 run to take set two.
The third set was another close game as DC took an early 5-2 lead. Saint Rose held a 20-18 advantage when a quick 2-0 run by the Lady Chargers tied the game at 20-20. Knotted at 24-24, a kill by freshman N'Jameh Philip (Monroe, NY) put Dominican at set point and junior Yashani Smith (West Haverstraw, NY) followed with a kill to put DC on the board with the set win.
Tied 10-10 in the fourth set, Saint Rose rallied with a 15-5 to close out the match wtih a 25-15 fourth set win.
Junior middle hitter Kelly Ryan (Pine Bush, NY) and sophomore outside hitter Sarah Kahrs (Kings Park, NY) led the Golden Knights with eight kills each in the win. Senior Mary German (Canandaigua, NY) led the team with 17 assists.
The Lady Chargers were led by freshman Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) who recorded eight kills. Smith finished with seven kills, while Philip led the way with 23 assists in the loss. Freshman libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, Texas) had a team leading 12 digs.
With the win Saint Rose improves to 1-0 on the year, while the Chargers fall to 0-2.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Thursday when they travel to non-conference opponent, Mercy College. Game time is slated for 7pm.
