LEMOYNE COLLEGE DOLPHINS TURN BACK LADY CHARGERS VOLLEYBALL

Orangeburg, NY (9/7/08) The Dominican College Lady Chargers volleyball team dropped their second straight match this afternoon to the visiting Dolphins of Le Moyne College, 3-0 (17-25, 12-25, 16-25) in a non-conference match on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

In the first set, the Lady Chargers pulled to within two points, 4-6 early but the Dolphins countered with a 4-0 run and went on to the 25-17 victory.

The second set, Le Moyne quickly jumped out to a 9-2 lead en route to the 25-12 win..

The third set saw the Lady Chargers continue to struggle coming off the serve as junior Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, CA) went on a late 4-0 service ace run to bring the Dolphins to match point.  A kill by freshman Allie Claflin (Ontario, NY) ended the match as LC took the third set 25-16.

Senior middle hitter Caitlin Richardson (Victor, NY) led all attackers with eight kills and three blocks, while Cheek finished with seven kills.  Sophomore Krista Prentice (Amherst, NY) added six kills and Jodi Smith (Angola, NY) had five kills.  Setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, NY) led the team with 25 assists in the win.

Sophomore Yashani Smith (West Haverstraw, NY) led the Lady Chargers with five kills.  Sophomore Lauren Palermo (Ottisville, NY) led the team with 15 assists. With the win Molloy improves to 1-3 on the season, while Dominican falls to 0-1.

The Lady Chargers return to action next Saturday when they host Goldey-Beacom College in the opening match of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season. Game time is set for 12pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.  Le Moyne also returns to action next weekend as they host the Le Moyne College Invitational.
