LADY CHARGERS VOLLEYBALL DROPS SEASON OPENER TO MOLLOY COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (9/4/08) The Dominican College Lady Chargers volleyball team dropped their opening match of the 2008 season to the visiting Lions of Molloy College, 3-0 (14-25, 6-25, 16-25) this evening in a non-conference match on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
In the first set, MC had a 20-14 lead and went on a 5-0 run for the 25-14 victory.
The second set, the Lions roared to victory behind a 10 point run behind great serving by freshman middle hitter Catherine Russini (Westbury, NY) to take a commanding 20-2 lead and the eventual 25-6 victory.
The Lady Chargers got within three points (11-14) in the third set as sophomore middle hitter Yashani Smith (West Haverstraw, NY) had back to back kills over the assist by freshman Gillian Holland (Johnstown, NY) . Molloy answered back later with a 4-0 run of their own and went on to the 25-16 win and the 3-0 match victory.
Sophomore Tina King (Point Lookout, NY) led the Lions with 10 kills, while outside hitter Arielle Wichard (Merrick, NY) added seven kills and Meaghan Meyer (East Meadow, NY) had six kills, respectively. Setter Kara Kerley (Wantagh, NY) had 15 assists in the win.
Smith led the Lady Chargers with six kills, while freshman Nicole Bagatta (Bellerose, NY) led the team with five assists. Holland finished with four assists on the night.
With the win Molloy improves to 1-3 on the season, while Dominican falls to 0-1.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Sunday when they host LeMoyne College in a non-conference match on Coach Baxter Court at 12pm. The Lions are back in action on Saturday when they host a tri-match with Caldwell College and LeMoyne College.
