Eagles Volleyball Escapes Dominican

Waterbury, CT (10/18/05) The Post University Eagles womens volleyball team finished a comeback over the Chargers of Dominican College 3-2 (25-30, 30-20, 24-30, 30-26, 15-12).
The Eagles got off to a slow start as they could not return Dominicans first three serves. Despite Post tying the game at three the Chargers stayed in control and won by a five-point margin. The Eagles trailed 13-12 in game two before Stacey Garmendia (Pine Bush, NY) served five straight points in a series that included three aces. The Eagles dominated the Chargers for the duration of the game and won to tie the match.
Game three was a back and forth affair that saw Dominican take control in the middle stages and extend to a 24-17 lead. The Lady Chargers cruised from there and took a 2-1 lead in the best of five match. Post was down but not out in game four. Dominican took the lead into the lead late into the game but a crucial stretch that saw the Eagles win five of six points gave Post the cushion they would need to send the match to a deciding fifth game. Dominican led 7-4 in the final stanza. Post would come back to take an 8-7 lead. Dominican would come back to tie the match at 12-12. Post scored the games final three points to garner the hard-fought two-hour plus win.
Post 14-12 (11-6 CACC) was led by Garmendia who totaled 16 kills, five aces and eight blocks. As a team the Eagles had 16 blocks, a season-best. Tadj Williams (Albany, NY) also had 16 kills. Kerry Smith (Lynbrook, NY) who earlier in the day was named the CACC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, added 10 kills and 18 digs. Desere Obregon (Bogata, NJ) accumulated 45 assists and 10 digs. Vicky Ducharme (Nashua, NH) contributed 18 digs.
For Dominican (6-122, 5-12 CACC), Kinikia Collier and Jessica Zanotti had 10 kills apiece. Megan Earl added a team-best 16 digs.
