ECKERD COLLEGE TAKES TWO FROM WOMEN'S SOFTBALL
St. Petersburg, Fla. (3/5/13) The Eckerd College softball team defeated the Dominican College Lady Chargers, this evening in a non-conference double-header played at the Turley Complex. The Tritons took game one, 11-10 in nine innings and won game two, 4-3 to now stand at 12-13 overall. Dominican falls to 2-4 overall on the season.

St. Petersburg, Fla. (3/5/13) The Eckerd College softball team defeated the Dominican College Lady Chargers, this evening in a non-conference double-header played at the Turley Complex. The Tritons took game one, 11-10 in nine innings and won game two, 4-3 to now stand at 12-13 overall. Dominican falls to 2-4 overall on the season.
Game One: The Lady Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as senior shortstop Julie Plante* (Swansea, Mass.) doubled home Brianna Arends (Raritan, N.J.) who had reached base on a two out single. Eckerd came back with a run in the third and fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
DC scored five runs in the top half of the fifth inning to regain a 6-2 lead. First basemen Kimberly Ragazzo (Lawrenceville, N.J.) hit her third home run in as many days, this one a three-run shot over the left field fence. Later an RBI single off the bat of pinch hitter, Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, Va.) brought in the fourth Lady Charger run of the game and freshman Shannon Haukap (Edmonds, Wash.) later scored on a throwing error after reaching base on a single.
EC came back in the bottom stanza with five runs of their own as they took a 7-6 advantage. Dominican recorded a run in the sixth inning to tie the score at 7-7
The Lady Chargers scored three runs in the top of the ninth as Plante hit a two-run double and Paige Berzak (Cypress, Calif.) later hit an RBI sacrifice fly ball to take a 10-7 lead. The Tritons rallied with four runs in bottom stanza for the 11-10 victory.
Arends, Delaney Childers (Johnstown, Ohio) and Berzak all had three hits each as DC pounded out 16 hits.
Childers suffered the loss, allowing 11 runs (six earned) on 13 hits.
Game Two: The game was scoreless until the third inning when EC put a run on the board for a 1-0 lead. The Lady Chargers rallied with three runs in the fifth inning on a three-run blast off the bat of Plante to take a 3-1 lead.
The Tritons once again came back with three runs in their half of the fifth for the eventual 4-3 victory.
Haukap and Plante each recorded two hits in the loss.
Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits and seven strikeouts.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow as they take on Cedarville University and Winona State University at the National Training Center.
