CHILDERS AND PLANTE NAMED TO 2012 CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA NCAA DIVISION II TEAM

Orangeburg, NY (5/23/12)  Dominican College softball players, Delaney Childers and Julie Plante, have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America NCAA Division II Softball Team as was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released today.  Both players were selected to the Third Team.

Childers, a junior left-handed pitcher from Johnstown, OH, was voted the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year, led the CACC with a 1.08 earned run average and 10 shutouts this year. She pitched 214.1 innings this season and finished with 24‐8 record this season that included two wins against C.W. Post and Adelphi University at the NCAA East Regional. She was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week three times this year and earned a one‐time ECAC weekly selection. Childers was also second in the league in strikeouts with 180.  She was named to the NFCA All-East Region First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America Division II Academic All-District First Team, and earned earned 2012 Daktronics All-America Honorable Mention accolades.  Childers has a 3.79 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Biology.

Plante, a junior shortstop from Swansea, MA, is a History major and has a cumulative GPA of 3.79.  She made her second appearance on the NFCA All-Region team as she was also named to the second team in 2010.  Recently, she made her second appearance on the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) First Team.  She is third on the team in batting average, while leading the team in doubles, triples and runs scored.  She is tied for team lead in hits and tied for second on team in RBIs.  Plante was named CACC Payer of the Week and ECAC Hitter of the Week once this season.  She has been a team captain for the past two years and recently recorded her 200th career hit this season.
