LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL TAKE TWO FROM DOWLING COLLEGE
Brookhaven, NY (4/15/12) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked ninth in the east region, swept a non-conference double-header from host, Dowling College, this afternoon in games played at the Golden Lion Field. During game one, junior Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) became the second Lady Charger to reach the 200 career hit milestone this season as she singled to center field.

During game one, junior Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) became the second Lady Charger to reach the 200 career hit milestone this season as she singled to center field.
Game One: Dominican took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double to right center field by pitcher Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH). The Golden Lions scored a run in the second to tie the game at 1-1.
Plante led off the top of the third inning where she recorded her 200th career hit with a single to center field. Shebecame the fifth softball player in school history to reach this milestone and the first player to reach it as a junior. She joins teammate Deidre Jeppson* (Sylmar, CA), who reached the mark on April 3rd of this season and is currently second all-time. Topping the list is Sarah Beck (2009) with 258 hits, followed by Jeppson (216), Katie Farrugia (2006) with 215 hits and Cara Piasecki (210) with 213 hits.
DC added four runs in the fourth inning as Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) and Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) received bases loaded walks to plate runs, while Jeppson and Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) had RBI singles to regain the lead at 5-1. Dowling got a run back in the bottom stanza for the final 5-2 score.
Childers improved to 18-6 on the season in the complete game victory, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and six strikeouts.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers scored the lone run of game two in the second inning as Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) hit an RBI single to center field to score Childers, who had led off the inning with a double down the left field line.
Katrina Pistilli* (Staten Island, NY) picked her up 12th win (12-8) and fifth shut out of the season in the complete game victory, scattering just three hits and recording four strikeouts.
With the sweep, Dominican improves to 30-14 overall, while Dowling falls to 22-15 on the season.
