LADY CHARGERS SPLIT ON FINAL DAY AT NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER GAMES
Clermont, FL (3/4/12) The Dominican College softball squad ended their spring break trip to Florida with a split this morning at the National Training Center Games played in Clermont, FL. Dominican won the first game of the day, 15-0 against Northern State University in five innings and fell in the finale, 6-5 to West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Game One: Dominican pounded out 16 hits in 15-0 five inning victory with all of the runs being scored in the first three innings.
Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) had an RBI single to centerfield and senior Ashley Martinez* (Bloomfield, NJ) later followed with a bases loaded walk for the 2-0 lead. Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) then hit a two run single and Martinez came home on an illegal pitch for the 5-0 lead.
Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) got the scoring going in the second inning as she hit an RBI bunt single. Right fielder Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA) later doubled to left field to plate two runs and Coles picked up her second RBI of the day with a single to left field. The final run of the inning came off an infield single by Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) to extend the lead to 11-0.
Pinch hitter Victoria LaPorte (Washingtonville, NY) hit a bases loaded single to score a run in the third and a one out bases loaded walk to pinch hitter Yaritza Huertas (Staten Island, NY) brought in the second run of the inning. Shortstop Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) delivered a two run double to make the score 15-0.
Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) picked up the shut out victory, scattering six hits and six strikeouts in five innings.
Game Two: Plante, Deidre Jeppson* (Sylmar, CA) and Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) each collected two hits a piece in the 6-5 loss. The game winning run came in the bottom of the seventh inning as the runner stole home.
Childers suffered the loss in 1 2/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits.
With the split Dominican now stands at 5-5 overall.
