SOFTBALL POSTS A SPLIT ON FIRST DAY AT NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER GAMES
Clermont, FL (3/2/12) The Dominican College softball team improved to 2-4 overall after posting a split on their first day of competition at the National Training Center Games played in Clermont, FL. DC upended Assumption College, 1-0 in game one and fell in the nightcap, 7-2, to Wilmington University in a non-conference game.

Game One: Dominican scored the lone run of the contest in the top of the first inning as junior shortstop Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) led off the game with a home run over the centerfield fence. From there the Lady Chargers were limited to just two hits, another one by Plante and one by first basemen Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA).
Left-handed hurler Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) improved to 2-2 on the season with the complete game shutout victory, allowing just one hit and striking out 11 batters.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against the Wildcats as Plante led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. A triple by Childers plated Plante. Berzak followed with an RBI groundout for a 2-0 lead.
Wilmington answered back with a seven run second inning on seven hits and one error for the eventual 7-2 victory. WU outhit the Lady Chargers 10-8 in the game.
Plante went 4-4 in the game.
Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work to now stand at 0-2 on the year.
Dominican returns to the field tomorrow as they take on the College of Saint Rose in a non-conference double-header to be played at the National Training Center. Game times are 1pm and 3pm.
