WOMEN'S SOFTBALL LOSES DOUBLEHEADER TO SAINT LEO UNIVERSITY
Saint Leo, FL (2/28/10) The Dominican College women's softball team opened the 2010 season with a double-header loss to host Saint Leo University, 13-5 in five innings and 4-2, this evening at University Field.
Saint Leo, FL (2/28/10) The Dominican College women's softball team opened the 2010 season with a double-header loss to host Saint Leo University, 13-5 in five innings and 4-2, this evening at University Field.
In game one, the Lions scored 13 runs on 12 hits in the victory. Saint Leo platted five runs in the third inning and added eight runs in the fifth to end the game with a 13-5 victory. Dominican's offense came alive in the top of the fifth with five runs as senior Cara Piasecki (Port Monmout, NJ) had an RBI single up the middle and DJ Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) reached on an error to score two runs. Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) later also reached on an error to score the last two runs for the Lady Chargers.
Pitcher Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) took the loss in four innings of work (nine runs, nine hits) to fall to 0-1 on the season.
In the night cap, Dominican took a 2-0 lead after the top half of the first inning as junior Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) singled down the right field line to score a run and Jeppson later followed with an RBI single up the middle.
Saint Leo answered back with three runs in the bottom stanza and tacked on a run in the sixth for the 4-2 victory.
Freshman pitcher Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) took the loss (0-1), allowing four runs on eight hits.
With the loss Dominican falls to 0-2 on the season. DC is back in action tomorrow night when they take on Florida Southern College in a non-conference double-header.
