Briarcliff, NY (3/27/10) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-header with Pace University this afternoon at Pace Field where DC was considered the home team for both games. DC lost the first game, 8-4, but rallied to win game two, 10-1 in five innings.
In game one, DC broke a 0-0 tie with a three run third inning as freshman Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) got a one out triple and came in to score on the RBI bunt single by centerfielder Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH). Two runs later scored on the single through the right side by shortstop Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) for a 3-0 lead.
Pace got a run back in the fourth, but DC regained a three run lead at 4-1 with a run in the bottom stanza on the Danielle Lotti (South Attleboro, MA) bunt single. The Setters used a three run sixth inning and a four run seventh inning to rally to an 8-4 victory.
Lady Charger starter Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) suffered the loss (5-4), allowing seven runs on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. Childers pitched the final 2/3 of the inning.
Game two saw the Chargers once first as they got a run in the first inning off senior Cara Piasecki's (Port Monmouth, NJ) sacrifice fly ball to center field to score Plante who had left off the inning with a single up the middle. DC added two runs in the second inning as freshman Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) hit a two-run homer which plated Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) who had led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Designated player Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) led off the third inning with a solo blast to put Dominican up 4-0.
Pace got a run back in the fourth inning, but the Lady Chargers exploded for six runs in the bottom stanza to take a commanding 10-1 lead. Piasecki got the RBI single through the left side for the first run and Martinez later followed with a three-run double to left center. The next batter was Corrao who hit an RBI single and Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) followed with an RBI double to centerfield as DC went on to the 10-1 five inning victory.
Childers picked up the victory in game two (5-4), allowing just one run on four hits and three strikeouts.
