# 8 LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL CHARGE PAST UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES IN PHILADELPHIA

Orangeburg, NY (4/26/09) The Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team, ranked eighth in the NCAA East Region, charged past the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia this afternoon on Senior day at the DC Softball Field IN Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action. DC won the first game, 11-3 in five innings and took the nightcap, 10-2 in five innings.
The Lady Chargers exploded for five runs in the first inning as Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) opened up the game with a bunt single and then stole second to break the CACC Single Season Stolen Base Record. Junior Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) followed with another bunt single and shortstop Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) delivered a RBI double to left field and CACC Co-Player of the Week, Sarah Beck (Milton, NY), surpassed the CACC Single Season RBI Record with a two run double to center field. Catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) blasted a two run homer to left to give DC a 5-0 lead.
Dominican added four runs in the second as Piasecki hit a three run homer to centerfield and Beck followed with a solo shot also to center to extend the DC lead to 9-0.
The Devils put three runs on the board in the third as Ashlee Trupp (Birdsboro, PA) led off the inning with a bunt single and junior Annie Abbate (Brooklyn, NY) reached on a DC error. An RBI infield single by Dyna Phillips (Rosenhayn, NJ) brought in a run and a one out double down the right field line by junior Samantha Tu (Trevose, PA) scored two runs and cut the Lady Charger lead to 9-3.
DC closed out the game in the fifth inning with two runs as Piasecki drew a bases loaded walk to score a run and Beck got the game ending RBI single through the left side for the final 11-3 victory.
CACC Rookie of the Week, Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY), got the complete game shut-out victory in three innings of work, scattering three hits and two strikeouts to improve to 17-5 on the year. Junior Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) came in to pitch the final two innings.
Devil starter Gina Murray (Brookhaven, PA) suffered the loss allowing nine runs on nine hits in three innings. Reliever Erin Degnan (Doylestown, PA) pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two strikeouts.
DC broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third as Philpot reached on a USP error and moved to second and third on wild pitches. She came in to score on the RBI single to right by Piasecki. Piasecki came in to score on the bases loaded sacrifice fly to center by senior Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) and Beck, who had an infield single earlier, came in to score on the RBI single up the middle by pitcher Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) to give the Lady Chargers a 3-0 lead.
USP scored a run in the fourth on the RBI single up the middle by first basemen Laura Pietropola (Galloway, NJ) to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Dominican extended their lead to 5-1 as Beck hit a single up the middle to plate two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Devils answered back with a run in the top of the fourth on an infield RBI single by Tu to make the score 5-2. DC tallied a run in the fifth on an RBI single up the middle by third basemen Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ). Two passed balls allowed Galladay to advance to third and she scored on the RBI single through the left side by Jeppson, followed by an RBI fielder's choice by Piasecki to put the Lady Chargers up 8-2. Beck ended game two just like game one, only this time a two-run triple to left field to give Dominican the 10-2 victory in five innings.
Garrison improves to 13-3 on the season with the victory, allowing two runs on eight hits and five strikeouts. Degnan took the loss for USP, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits.
With the victories Dominican improves to 35-12 overall and 21-2 in the CACC and extend their winning streak to 16 games.
