LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL SPLIT WITH WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY
New Castle, DE (3/21/09) The Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a double-header split from host Wilmington University this afternoon. WU took the first game, 5-4 while DC took the night cap, 6-1.
New Castle, DE (3/21/09) The Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a double-header split from host Wilmington University this afternoon. WU took the first game, 5-4 while DC took the night cap, 6-1.
In game one the 'Cats put three runs across in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead, but DC platted a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) to cut the WU lead to 3-1.
A two-run homer over the left field fence by Kristin Tomlinson (Millsboro, DE) in the Wilmington half of the fifth brought the lead back to 5-1. DC made things interesting in the seventh as junior Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) hit a three-run, two-out blast to right center to bring the Lady Chargers within a run, but WU reliever Kim Lawrence (Wilmington, DE) came in to get the next out and the save.
Junior Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) suffered the loss (1-1), allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits and three strikeouts. Philpot finished the game 1-3 with 3 RBIs, while third basemen Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) went 2-4 with a run scored.
Dominican responded in game two with two runs in the first on a two-run double by senior left fielder Sarah Beck (Milton, NY). DC added to their lead with a four run seventh inning after shortstop Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) launched a three-run homer over the centerfield fence and senior Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) had a two-out RBI single to center to plate Beck and give the Lady Chargers a 6-0 lead. WU put a run on the board in the seventh on a double for the final 6-1 score.
Freshman Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) improved to 4-2 overall in the complete game win, scattering one run on five hits and striking out seven. Piasecki led DC in game two, going 3-4 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored. Beck finished the game 2-4 with 2RBIs and a run scored, while Philpot scored two runs in the win.
Following the split Dominican is now 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while Wilmington is 5-11 overall and 1-1 in the CACC.
