LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT WITH SWEEP OVER NYIT
Orangeburg, NY (3/27/09) The Dominican College softball team, ranked 10th in the NCAA Division II East Region, swept the fifth ranked in the East Region New York Institute of Technology Bears this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. DC came from behind in the first game to win 8-7 and won the nightcap, 5-3.

DC came from behind in the first game to win 8-7 and won the nightcap, 5-3.
DC got on the board in the first inning as freshman Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) led off the inning with a solo home run to right center to give Dominican a 1-0 lead. The Bears came back with a run in the second and two in the third and one in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. The Lady Chargers came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth as senior Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) had an RBI double and junior Danielle Garrison (Coatesvile, PA) had a two run single to center to cut the Bear lead to 5-4.
NYIT brought three more runs across in the fifth and sixth innings to take an 8-4 lead, but DC fought back with two runs in the sixth on a two run single by pinch hitter Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ). In the seventh, with the tying run on base and two outs, sophomore catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) hit a bomb over the center field fence to lift DC to the 8-7 victory.
Garrison got the complete game win to improve to 5-1 on the season, allowing seven runs on 12 hits. Senior Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) went 3-4 with two runs scored, while Scarillo finished 2-4 with 2RBIs and two runs scored.
In game two, DC once again put a run across the plate in the first on an RBI by junior Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ). NYIT reacted with two runs in the second to take a 2-1 lead, but DC answered back with a four run bottom stanza to regain a 5-2 advantage. Jeppson had an RBI single to right field, followed by a two run infield single by rightfielder Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA). Beck reached base on an error to allow Philpot to score.
The Bears put the final run of the game on the board in the third as DC went on to the 5-3 victory.
Lady Charger reliever Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) picked up the win in 4 2/3 innings of work, scattering just two hits and striking out four to improve to 2-2 on the year. Starter Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) went 2 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits.
Jeppson went 3-3 with two runs scored, while Philpot went 1-2 with two RBIs. Edwards added two hits on the offensive end.
With the victories Dominican improves to 13-6 overall, while NYIT falls to 17-13.
