LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT

Orangeburg, NY (4/17/08)  The Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team split a non-conference double-header with the University of Bridgeport this afternoon in Bridgeport, CT.  UB won the first game, 6-3, while DC won the second game, 5-3.

Game One: UB held a 6-0 lead going into the top of the sixth when they Lady Chargers struck for three runs on four hits.  Junior Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) hit a one out single, but Cara Piasecki's (Port Monmouth, NJ) fielder's choice put her on first with two outs.  Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) walked to put two on and catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) reached on a UB error to load the bases.  Pinch hitter Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) singled to plate Piasecki, followed by an RBI single by Gina Politt (Nutley, NJ).  Right fielder Kristi Dillon (Staten Island, NY) followed with DC's third consecutive RBI single to score Scarillo and cut the Purple Knight's lead to the final 6-3 score.

Sophomore Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) took the loss for DC (4-5), pitching four innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and three strikeouts.

Game Two:  The Lady Chargers opened up the game with two runs in the first as Dillon, senior Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) and senior Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) all received free passes to load the bases.  The fourth consecutive walk to Beck brought in Dillon and a sacrifice fly to center field by Ollari scored Terpstra and gave DC their first lead of the day.

UB responded in the bottom stanza to knot the game at 2-2 on a two shot blast and added a run in the fourth for a 3-2 lead.

Dominican pulled ahead in the fifth as Knuth reached on an error, moved to second on a single by Beck and scored on the RBI single by Piasecki.  A two run single by Scarillo put DC ahead for the final 5-3 win.

Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) got the complete game win (4-3) , allowing just three runs on three hits and two strikeouts.

With the split the team improves to 19-17 overall.
