Dominican Softball Split With Georgian Court University
Blauvelt, NY (4/29/07) The Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double header with Georgian Court University this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. DC won the first game, 5-4, but lost the night cap, 14-11.
In the first game, Dominican got on the board in the bottom of the third when freshman Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) hit a solo home run over the left field fence to give the Lady Chargers a 1-0 lead. DC added to the lead in the fifth when sophomore Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) hit a two run blast to center field, scoring Piasecki who had received a one out walk earlier in the game.
DC put two more runs on the board in the sixth as Piascecki hit a RBI single, scoring pinch runner Gina Pollit (Nutley, NJ). Earlier in the inning, Michelle Krupna (Sparta, NJ) singled and later scored on a GCU error allowing Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) to reach base.
The Lions trailed 5-0 going into the top of the seventh when Nicole Fortino (Brick, NJ) led off the inning with a single, Stacey Ryan (Brick, NJ) walked and Kristina Iacovino (Howell, NJ) got a one out walk to load the bases for Julie Sito (Elyria, OH) who hit a rocket over the left field fence for the grand slam and brought GCU within one, 5-4.
Freshman Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) came in to relieve DC starter Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) to get the final two outs, a sacrifice bunt to put the tying run in scoring position and the final ground out to short, and the save as Dominican held on for the 5-4 victory.
Game two was a home run derby as both teams hit a combined 10 home runs as GCU pulled away with the 14-11 victory.
Heather Walker (Hanover, Ontario) hit two home runs for the Lions while Fortino, Ryan, Mallory Kirchner (South Amboy, NJ) and Stephanie Cuevas (Fords, NJ) each had a homer in the win.
Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY), Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY), Garrison and Piasecki, her second of the day, homered for the Lady Chargers in the loss.
GCU had 15 hits in game two, while DC had 11 hits.

win, while DC reliever Michelle Bark (West Milford,
