Blauvelt, NY (3/31/07) The Dominican College softball team improved to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after sweeping host Goldey-Beacom College, 13-0 and 8-5 this afternoon.
Lady Chargers Sweep Goldey-Beacom College
Blauvelt, NY (3/31/07) The Dominican College softball team improved to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after sweeping host Goldey-Beacom College, 7-0 and 8-5 this afternoon.
The Lady Chargers had a 13-0 lead after two innings when Goldey-Beacom College decided to forfeit the game. According to NCAA laws, when a game is forfeited by one team the final score shall be 7-0 and the statistics of the game will not count.
In game two, DC scored a run in the first inning when Nicole Philpot (Digmans Ferry, PA) got a one out single, stole second and came around to score on an RBI single by freshman Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA). The Lady Chargers added a run in the second on an RBI double by jumior Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY).
Dominican then added three runs in the third, putting together three consecutive singles followed by a single by Melanie Hestermann (Lacey Township, NJ) that scored two runs. DC's final two runs came in the fourth as Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) had a sacrifice fly to center that scored pinch runner Christina Tirado (Rincon, Puerto Rico). Terpstra scored on a wild pitch.
GBC scored a run in the first on an RBI triple by Kelly Halfan as Sarah Gehman came in to score after leading off the game with a walk. The Lightning added three runs in the third as two runs came on on a triple by Kim Narkiewicz. The final run for GBC came in the fourth on an RBI doulbe by Kendra Russell.
Lady Charger pitcher Garrison got the win in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings.
