Blauvelt, NY (3/25/07) The Dominican College softball squad split a non-conference double-header with Queens College this afternoon in Flushing, NY. The Lady Chargers dropped the first game, 0-2, but rallied to win the second game, 8-5.

Blauvelt, NY (3/25/07) The Dominican College softball squad split a non-conference double-header with Queens College this afternoon in Flushing, NY. The Lady Chargers dropped the first game, 0-2, but rallied to win the second game, 8-5.
Freshman hurler Christy Sanders threw a one hit shutout to help Queens to a 2-0 win in game one. Sanders retired the first 11 batters she faced before surrendering a single to Dominican's Sarah Beck (MIlton, NY). The only other DC batter to reach base was Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ), who drew a one out walk in the sixth. QC's runs came in the fifth when Jay Henck singled in Patti Cronin and Katie Karpinski follwed with a double to plate Henck.
Senior Michelle Krupna (Sparta, NJ) suffered the loss, dropping her record to 2-1 on the year.
In game two, the Lady Chargers jumped on the board early with two runs in the first on a two out single by freshman Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY), scoring Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) who led off the inning with a single and Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) who got on with a walk.
Queens tied the game at 2-2 with runs int he third and fourth innings, but DC exploded for four runs in the fifth for a 6-2 lead. Beck hit a two run homer to highlight the four run inning.
Krupna added a home run in the top of the seventh for the 8-5 victory.
Junior Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) got the win to improve her record to 3-1 on the year.
Dominican is back in action on Wednesday, March 28th when they host Caldwell College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) softball action.
