Softball

Lakewood, NJ (5/13/06)  The top seeded Dominican College softball team was eliminated from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) softball tournament after losing two games this afternoon.

The Lady Chargers faced the fourth seeded University of Bridgeport in the tournament's opening game.  UB jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second and added a run in the fifth for the 3-0 lead.

DC got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as pitcher Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) hit a home run to pull the team within two runs.

In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) doubled with one out and later scored on a UB error to make the score 3-2.

Stathes suffered the loss, going four innings and allowing six hits and three runs.

In game two, Dominican faced #3 Felician College, who was beaten by #2 Georgian Court University, in an elimination game.  The game was scoreless unitl the fourth when Felician scored two runs and added a run in the sixth for the 3-0 victory.

Senior Katie Farrugia (Cornwall, NY) went 2-3 in the game with a double.

Junior Michelle Bark (West Milford, NJ) suffered the loss.

Dominican ends the season with a 37-19 overall record.
