Dominican Softball Splits CACC Double-Header With Philadelphia University
Blauvelt, NY (4/18/06) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the Rams of Philadelphia University this afternoon in Blauvelt, NY. Dominican took the first game 3-1, while Philadelphia won the second game., 4-2. The split brings the Lady Chargers record to 26-12 overall and 9-7 in the CACC, while the Rams improve to 5-29 overall and 4-12 in the CACC.

Blauvelt, NY (4/18/06) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the Rams of Philadelphia University this afternoon in Blauvelt, NY. Dominican took the first game 3-1, while Philadelphia won the second game., 4-2. The split brings the Lady Chargers record to 26-12 overall and 9-7 in the CACC, while the Rams improve to 5-29 overall and 4-12 in the CACC.
In game one, the Lady Chargers scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead after lead off hitter Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) hit a single, moved over to second on a wild pitch and went to third on the ground out by Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ). Senior Katie Farrugia (Cornwall, NY) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Knuth.
The Rams answered back in the second inning as Lindsey Field (Philadelphia, PA) walked to lead off the inning and moved on to second on a wild pitch. On a ground out to first by Lauren Mammano (Trenton, NJ), Field went to third. Melissa Chesney (Lake George, NY) walked and stole second, but a DC error allowed Field to score as the throw to second was off to tie the game at 1-1.
In the bottom stanza, Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) singled to lead off the inning, stole second and went to third on a passed ball. With one out, Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) hit an RBI ground out to the shortstop, putting the Lady Chargers back on top, 2-1. DC added a run in the fifth as Stathes hit a solo home run to lead off the inning and give Dominican a 3-1 lead.
Philadelphia rallied for a run in the top of the seventh as Kate McNulty (New Cumberland, PA) singled to lead off the inning and proceeded to second and third on back to back groundouts. Ashley Stapleton (East Brunswick, NJ) hit a two out RBI single to score McNulty but the game ended as the next batter flied out to center field.
Dominican starter Michelle Krupna (Sparta, NJ) improved her record to 8-4 on the year with the win, while Ram pitcher Jacque Curtis (Punxsutawney, PA) suffered the loss.
In the second game, The Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning as Danni Johnson (Elkton, MD) got a lead off walk, stole second and came in to score on the double by Stapleton. Curtis followed with a single to put two runners on for Jenn Clark (Marlton, NJ). Clark came through with an RBI single to score Stapleton and a DC error led to Clark moving to second and Curtis to score.
Philadelphia added a run in the top of the fifth as Stapleton singled with one out, stole second and came in to score on the RBI ground out to short by Field as the Rams took a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth Krupna got a lead off single, followed by a one out single by Kim Cornacchio (Poughkeepsie, NY) to put two runners on base. Knuth and Stathes hit back to back RBI singles to score Knuth and Cornacchio to bring the Lady Chargers within two, 4-2. However that was as close as the team would get as a runner was called out on interference with two on and the final out of the inning was a ground out to second base.
Curtis picked up the win, going seven innings with four strikeouts and nine hits. Stathes suffered the loss to drop her record to 11-3 on the year.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on tomorrow when they host Pace University in a non-conference double-header, slated to begin at 3pm.
