Blauvelt, NY (3/26/06) The Dominican college softball team swept a non-conference double-header from Queens College, 4-2 and 4-2 this afternoon.
Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) put the Lady Chargers on the board in the first inning, hitting a solo home run to right field. Dominican added a run in the second off a Queens error. Sophomore Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) doubled home Melanie Hestermann (Lacey Township, NJ) in the fourth to give DC a 3-0 lead. Queens got on the board with a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1, but the Lady Chargers added a run in the fifth, en route to the 4-2 victory.
Katie Farrugia (Cornwall, NY) went 2-3 with a run scored as Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) picked up the win, scattering three hits in seven innings.
In the second game, the Lady Chargers exploded for four runs in the fifth inning as Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) and Stathes got back to back one out singles, followed by a three run homer by Beck for her second of the day. One batter later, Farrugia followed suit with a solo shot to give the team a 4-0 lead.
Queens scored two runs in the sixth, but it wouldn't be enough as DC came away with the 4-2 win.
Dominican starter Michelle Krupna (Sparta, NJ) got the complete game win, allowing six hits and striking out nine.
The team is back in action on Tuesday, March 28th when they travel to Georgian Court University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference double header.
