Dominican College Splits Double-Header Against Bloomfield College
Blauvelt, NY (3/25/06) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header this afternoon with Bloomfield College, taking the first game 8-1 and losing the second game 5-0. With the split, the Lady Chargers improve to 10-6 and 2-2 in the CACC, while the Lady Deacons improve to 5-8 and 2-2 in the CACC.

Blauvelt, NY (3/25/06) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header this afternoon with Bloomfield College, taking the first game 8-1 and losing the second game 5-0. With the split, the Lady Chargers improve to 10-6 and 2-2 in the CACC, while the Lady Deacons improve to 5-8 and 2-2 in the CACC.
In game one, Dominican pitcher Michelle Krupna (Sparta, NJ) pitched a one hit gem to improve her record to 3-1, while striking out a career high 15 batters. The Lady Chargers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third as freshman Melanie Hestermann (Lacey Township, NJ) drilled a 1-2 pitch over the fence to a two run homer after centerfielder Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) hit a double to left field to start the inning.
DC added on five runs in the fourth as senior Katie Farrugia (Cornwall, NY) led off the inning with a single, followed by a double to left by catcher Sarah Beck (Milton, NY). Krupna was intentionally walked to load the bases for sophomore third baseman Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) who took a 2-0 pitch deep to left field for the grand slam as the team went up 7-0.
Bloomfield battle back for a run in the fifth as relief pitcher Krista Burke (Totowa, NJ) took a 0-1 count deep for the Lady Deacons only hit and put the team on the board, trailing 7-1. The Lady Chargers got the run back in the bottom stanza as left fielder Kim Cornacchio (Poughkeepsie, NY) got a one out single, stole second and game around to score on the RBI single by senior Danielle Gornie (Shrub Oak, NY) to put Dominican back on top by seven runs at 8-1.
Bloomfield starter Kristin Wilhelm (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) suffered the loss, going 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits and seven runs.
In game two, the Lady Deacons struck earlier as Rhea Luhrs (Milford, PA) and Amanda Byrnes (Ringwood, NJ) hit back to back one out singles. Freshman Ashley Frange (Staten Island, NY) then took a 1-0 pitch deep to right field for the three run homer to put Bloomfield up 3-0.
BC added to their lead in the second as right fielder Tashaleigh Ryerson (West Milford, NJ) hit the first pitch to left for a single and moved to second on another single to left by Kristen Bella (Highland Lakes, NJ). Luhrs followed with an RBI double to right, scoring T. Ryerson to give the Lady Deacons a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Frange struck again, this time hitting a solo homer to right as Bloomfield held on for the 5-0 win.
Bloomfield pitcher Fauna Ryerson (West Milford, NJ) got the complete game win, allowing three hits and striking out five batters, while DC starter Michelle Bark (West Milford, NJ) suffered the loss, going four innings with 10 hits and six strikeouts.
The Lady Chargers are back in action tomorrow as they host
Queens College in a non-conference double-header, slated to begin
at 12pm.
