VALENICA LIFTS CHARGERS TO DOUBLE OVERTIME VICTORY OVER FELICIAN COLLEGE
Lyndhurst, NJ (9/20/11) Sophomore midfielder Manuel Valencia (New Rochelle, NY) netted the game winning goal just 35 seconds into the second overtime period to lift the visiting Dominican College Chargers to a 2-1 victory over the Felician College Golden Falcons in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played this afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Lyndhurst, NJ (9/20/11) Sophomore midfielder Manuel Valencia (New Rochelle, NY) netted the game winning goal just 35 seconds into the second overtime period to lift the visiting Dominican College Chargers to a 2-1 victory over the Felician College Golden Falcons in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played this afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Felician scored the first goal of the game in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Dominican tied the game at the 87:28 mark when a FC miscue gave the Chargers a corner kick. Valencia took the corner kick and defender Matthew Shutter (Alpine, NY) headed the ball to foward Xavier Forsberg (Green Point, Australia) who headed the ball into the net to tie the contest.
In the second overtime, freshman Clodalain Lolo (Stony Point, NY) passed the ball through players to the middle of the 18 yard box and to the foot of Valencia who finished from close range for the 2-1 victory.
The Golden Falcons outshot the Chargers, 39-9 in the game. The game winning goal was the only shot for the Chargers in overtime.
Senior goalie Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa, Canada) made a career high 18 saves in the victory.
With the win Dominican improves to 2-3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
DC returns to action on Sunday when they host Philadelphia University in a CACC game scheduled for 2:30 pm on the DC Soccer Field.
