Lowell, MA (8/29/07)  Sophomore G Ryan Richards (Holden, MA) stopped five shots, including two in the first overtime period, as No. 3 UMass Lowell and Dominican College played to a 0-0 draw in double overtime Wednesday afternoon at Cushing Field.

With the tie, UML stands at 1-0-1 overall entering Saturday's Northeast-10 Conference opener against Saint Rose Saturday at UML's Cushing Field. Dominican is currently 0-0-3.

UML outshot the Chargers, 13-8, overall, but the Chargers had the edge on target, 5-3. Senior G Robert Kelly (Kearny, NJ) had three saves.

Both teams had several breakthrough chances as Richards was the star in the first overtime, turning away a pair of attempts in succession. The shutout is the 10th of his career.

Nearly four minutes into the first extra session, senior M Jhonny Artaega (Stamford, CT) unleashed a shot from the left side of the box, but Richards tipped it right of the post. On the ensuing corner kick, Richards blocked a point blank header from sophomore D Dan Kelly (Massapequa, NY), which UML quickly cleared.

UML missed an open chance three minutes into the second overtime when sophomore F Jamie Wangia (Lowell, MA) was a split second late to the far post on a corner kick by junior M Matias Pietropinto (Leominster, MA).

UML's best chance came in the waning seconds of the second half when a shot by freshman M Terrence Richardson (Auburn, MA) appeared bound for the netting, but was cleared off the line by a Charger defender.

Freshman F Joe Wright (Stratford-Upon-Avon, NY) nearly broke the drought in the 69th minute, but his shot from the top left corner of the box was parried by Richards
