Caldwell Picked First In CACC Pre-Season Men's Soccer Poll
New Haven (8/17/06) Caldwell College is the pre-season pick to win the 2006 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's soccer title, according to balloting conducted by the conference's nine head coaches. Caldwell, which received three of the nine first-place votes, garnered a total of 73 points in the poll to narrowly beat out Dominican College, which also picked up three first-place votes and 71 total points.

New Haven (8/17/06) Caldwell College is the pre-season pick to win the 2006 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's soccer title, according to balloting conducted by the conference's nine head coaches. Caldwell, which received three of the nine first-place votes, garnered a total of 73 points in the poll to narrowly beat out Dominican College, which also picked up three first-place votes and 71 total points.
Caldwell finished second in the CACC in both the regular-season and conference tournament last year and compiled a 12-5-1 overall record to go with a 7-1 CACC mark. The Cougars advanced to the CACC Tournament Championship game last year and fell to Dominican, 1-0. Caldwell returns eight starters and all six of their 2005 All-CACC honorees, including senior Uke Dauti, who finished first in the CACC with 2.33 points-per game last year. Dauti also stood second in total points (35) and goals scored (16).
Dominican, the two-time defending CACC regular-season and tournament champion, finished seventh in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll last year with an 18-2 record and a perfect 8-0 finish in conference play. The Chargers advanced to the NCAA New England Region final and fell, 1-0, to eventual national runner-up, Franklin Pierce College. Dominican is ranked 11th in the 2006 NSCAA Division II pre-season poll.
Nyack and Felician are third and fourth in the pre-season poll with 58 and 51 total points, respectively. Nyack concluded 2005 with a 13-7-4 overall record and a 4-2-2 mark in the CACC, while Felician went 6-10-2 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The Warriors and Golden Falcons both advanced to the CACC Tournament semifinals last year.
Post, with one first-place vote, rounds out the top-five with 45 total points. The Eagles went 8-10 last year and 3-5 in the CACC. Wilmington and Holy Family each garnered one first-place nod from the coaches and were sixth and seventh in the poll. The complete 2006 pre-season poll, with each team's 2005 final record, is below.
