CHARGER SOCCER PLAYERS PLAY FOR ALBANY ADMIRALS
Blauvelt, NY (6/5/07) Dominican College men's soccer players, Jhonny Arteaga, Ryan Clancy and former Charger standout Kyle Clancy are playing for the Albany Admirals this summer in the Professional Development League (PDL).
Arteaga, a native of Cali, Colombia, who finished
his junior year tied for second in goals and was second in assists.
He was also named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
(CACC) First Team, the All-CACC Tournament Team and the 2006
National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) /Adidas Division II
All-American Team in the New England Region Second Team. In
his sophomore year, he was named to the All-CACC Second Team and
the 2005 NCAA Division II Men's New England Region All-Tournament
Team.
Ryan Clancy, a native of Pine Bush, NY, who also
finished his junior year who led the Chargers in goals scored and
assists. He was named the CACC Tournament MVP for the second
time in his career, named to the All-CACC First Team for the second
year straight, the CACC All-Tournament Team for the third straight
year and to the 2006 Division II Daktronics All-New England Men's
Soccer First Team. He finished the year leading the team in
goals (9), assists (12) and points (30). He was also named
CACC Player of the Week three times this year. He finished
the season ranked sixth in the nation in assists per game,
averaging 0.63 per contest. This year he earned NSCAA/Adidas
Division II New England Region First Team honors. In 2005, he
earned NSCAA/Adidas Division II New England Region Second Team
honors and in 2004 was named to the Third Team.
Kyle Clancy, Ryan's older brother, was a stand out
soccer player at Dominican College. He was named the CACC
Men's Soccer Player of the Year in his junior and senior years. He
finished tied for first in the CACC in goals (15) and holds the top
spot in points (36) in his senior year. He was a first-team
All-CACC selection all four years, a member of the 2004 All-CACC
Tournament Team and was the Most Valuable Player of the 2002
conference tournament. He led the team in 2005 in goals scored with
15 and in points with 36. He played in every game in 2005 for the
Chargers and scored six game-winning goals, including one against
regionally ranked LeMoyne College. He was named to the 2005 ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team and the NSCAA/Adidas
Division II New England Region First Team in his senior year, while
earning Second Team honors in his junior season. Clancy
finished his career at Dominican second in goals scored and ranked
in the top ten in assists.
The Albany Admirals formerly the Black Watch Highlanders, is privately owned and operated in the Capital Region of Upstate New York. The Admirals have been competing since the Spring of 2000, and are currently in the Professional Development League (PDL) of the United Soccer Leagues (USL). The PDL sits as the fourth tier of professional soccer, similar to the minor leagues of MLB. In the US currently, Major League Soccer (MLS) is on top of the soccer pyramid with the USL having the next three divisions; USL Division I, USL Division II and the PDL.
