Rutherford, NJ (11/5/05) The top seeded Dominican Chargers (18-1) soccer team won their second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Championship after defeating #2 Caldwell College, 1-0 this afternoon at Tryon Field in Rutherford, NJ.
Tournament MVP, Kyle Clancy (Walden, NY), netted the game winner in the first half off the double dish by brother, Ryan Clancy (Walden, NY) and sophomore Diego Miranda (Quito, Ecuador) at 13:57.
DC out shot the Cougars 13-10 and had the advantage in corner kicks, 4-2.
Cougar keeper Mike Turdo had five saves, while Charger keeper Robert Kelly (Kearny, NJ) made four saves in the victory.
Five Dominican players were named to the All-Tournament Team, which was announced at the game. Kyle Clancy was named both MVP and to the All-Tournament Team, after scoring five goals in two games. Brother Ryan, had one goal and one assist, while senior Brent Gaylord (Phoenix, AZ) contribute three assists in tournament action. Seniors Tom Rolston (New City, NY) and Scott Silvia (Dighton, MA) were recognized for their stellar play with All-Tournament honors also.
