Coach Ballou enters his third year as head coach of the Domincan College men’s lacrosse program.
A 2002 graduate of the State University of New York at Geneseo, Ballou earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education. He was a member of the men’s lacrosse team for four years and was named captain in his junior and senior seasons. Among being a three-time All SUNYAC selection, he led a defense that was ranked 13th in the nation in 2002. He also helped lead Geneseo to their first Division III top twenty ranking. Ballou started every game in his collegiate career and earned both the Most Improved Player and Most Valuable Player Awards in 2002. He was selected as an Inside Lacrosse Pre-Season All-American before his senior year.
After graduation, Ballou returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach. In his three years as an assistant, the team went to the SUNYAC final every year and won the championship in 2003. The team made two appearances in the ECAC Tournament, capturing the title in 2003 and participating in the 2005 tournament. In 2004, Geneseo advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Ballou earned his master’s degree in advanced elementary teaching in 2005 and currently works at St. Dominic's School.
He will marry his fiance, Laura, on July 26, 2008 and resides in
White Plains, NY.
Assistant Coach: Manny Rapkin
Coach Rapkin enters his second year on the Charger staff.
Rapkin comes to Dominican after serving as assistant coach at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. Prior to that he was an assistant coach at Desert Mountain High School from 2002-2003 in Scottsdale, Az and was an assistant coach at Clarkstown North High School from 1985-1986.
Rapkin, a 1978 graduate of Clarkstown North High School, played collegiate lacrosse at Siena College.
Assistant Coach: Mike McCarthy
Coach McCarthy enters his first year on the Charger staff.
McCarthy comes to Dominican after spending his collegiate years at Alfred University where he was a member of the men's lacrosse team. He was a team captain in his junior and senior seasons and started every game in his four years at AU. He led the team in ground balls and was the Defensive Most Valuable Player in 2006 and was team Most Valuable Players, Empire 8 All-Conference, Empire 8 Sportsperson of the Year and finished second on the team in ground balls in his senior year.
A 2007 graduate of Alfred University, McCarthy
earned a bachelor of art's degree in Criminal Justice and a minor
in Athletic Coaching.
