Hillburn, N.Y. (3/18/13) The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham men's lacrosse team edged host, Dominican College, 10-9 this afternoon in a non-conference game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex. Following the loss, the Chargers are now 0-3 on the season.

Dominican netted the game's first three goals to take the lead with 11:20 left in the first quarter as attacker Maxwell Odynski (Northport, N.Y.) netted his first goal off the season off the pass from freshman Joseph Ravenell (Copiague, N.Y.). Ravenell followed two minutes later with his fifth goal of the season off the pass from Odynski to make the score 2-0. Odynksi netted his second goal of the game, this time unassisted for the 3-0 lead.
The Devils closed out the first quarter with three goals and continued their run for the first four minutes of the second with four more goals to complete a 7-0 run and take a 7-3 lead. Junior midfielder Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, N.Y.) netted his sixth goal of the season with 10:07 remaining before halftime and the Devils later added a goal to make the score 8-4. Attacker Jusstin Ruffin (Amityville, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season off the pass from Dertinger for a 8-5 score at the break.
The third quarter saw FDU strike first on a man-up opportunity but senior Daniel Steigert (Copiague, N.Y.) countered with a goal off the assist from Ruffin with 7:52 to go to bring the Chargers within three, 9-6.
Dertinger started off the fourth quarter scoring on a man-up opportunity with his team leading seventh goal of the season off the pass from Ruffin to bring DC within two goals at 9-7. FDU regained the three goal lead with 2:28 left in regulation. Ten seconds later Ravenell recorded the unassisted goal and with 1:33 remaining Dertinger completed the hat trick with his third goal of the game off the assist from Sean McGregor (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) for the final 10-9 score.
Dertinger led the Chargers with four points (three goals, one assist).
Odynski, Ruffin and Ravenell all finished with three points each.
Goalie Matthew Quinones (Nanuet, N.Y.) made 19 saves in the loss.
The Chargers are back in action on Saturday as they open up East Coast Conference (ECC) play with a home game against Molloy College. Game time is set for 2pm at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
