CHARGERS LACROSSE CAPTURE WIN OVER ROBERTS WESLEYAN COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (4/10/12) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team captured their first win of the 2012 season after defeating the visiting Raiders of Roberts Wesleyan College, 11-9, this afternoon in a non-conference game played at the DC Lacrosse Field. With the win, Dominican improves 1-7 overall, while Roberts Wesleyan falls to 2-7 on the season.

With the win, Dominican improves 1-7 overall, while Roberts Wesleyan falls to 2-7 on the season.
Senior attacker Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) and sophomore midfielder Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, NY) each scored three goals and three assists in the victory to finish with a season high six points on the afternoon.
Pierce started off the scoring with his ninth goal of the season off the pass from Dertinger with 10:35 left in the first quarter. Attacker Connor Lawlor (Neptune City, NJ) put DC up 2-0 with 8:16 to go on an unassisted goal. Dertinger followed less than a minute later with his first goal of the game to take a 3-0 lead. A Raider goal broke up the run to make the score 3-1 with 6:35 to go, but Pierce and Chris Delaney (Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada) netted goals off assists from Dertinger and Lawlor to put the Chargers ahead 5-1. Two RWC goals before the end of the quarter made the score 5-3.
The Chargers outscored the Raiders 2-1 in the second quarter as midfielder Sean McGregor (Bloomingburg, NY) scored his first goal of the season off the assist from Dertinger at the 14 minute mark and Delaney converted a man-up opportunity off the pass from Daniel Steigert (Copiague, NY) to give DC a four goal lead (7-3) with 12:22 before the break. The Raiders closed out first half play with a goal to make the score 7-4 at halftime.
The third quarter opened with RWC going on a 3-0 run to tie the game at 7-7, but Dominican answered back with four unanswered goals to close out the third quarter with an 11-7 lead. Pierce regained an 8-7 lead with his 11th goal of the season off Lawlor's assist with just under 11 minutes to play. McGregor scored his second goal of the season a little over four minutes later with an unassisted goal. Dertinger completed the hat trick with two consecutive goals off two passes from Pierce.
Roberts Wesleyan College scored both goals in the fourth quarter for the final 11-9 Charger victory.
Goalie Andrew Slater (Brookfield, CT) made 10 saves in the win.
Dominican is back in action as they host Lake Erie College on Saturday.
